February Steps Challenge

I’m participating in the February Step Challenge in support of SickKids.

This month, I’m stepping up in the fight for children’s health by participating in the February Step Challenge. Every walk, commute, and hike will help SickKids. As some of you close to me know, my son Ashton had been dx with Osteosarcoma ( bone cancer )  July 28,2021 on his 17th birthday, due to where the tumor was located Ashton had to have a right leg through the knee leg amputation which was done at Toronto SickKids where he and I stayed for a couple weeks. Ashton thrived and always had a smile on his face that would brighten up any room he walked into . No matter what curveballs life threw at him he adapted to them , he accepted them as they were good or bad , and he refused to allow all the negatives consume his life, that even includes cancer.  The doctors have Ashton 2 month when he relapsed Feb27,2022 but he said na "I still have stuff to do " and he did he fought through each day good and bad and never complained about any of it nor did he want others to feel sorry for him . He lived his life as independencey as he could and pushed his way through the following months on a mission a mission to complete the goals he had previously set out for himself before he knew he was even sick. Being told he would never walk again or be able to care for himself about 4-6 weeks after dx only made him more determined that he wasn't giving up  his biggest fear was that he didn't want to lose his independencey so he asked us to not give him special treatment not treat him any different than before he got sick. On May 2,2023  Ashton stood up from his glider/wheel chair and walked across the stage of his school where he collected his gr 12  diploma and the triumph alumni award for his resiliance. Ashton loved to race he loved the track he said it was the only place he could feel completely stress free and feel free with the wind blowing his hair and the warmth of the sun on his face .
