Sick Kids?

Tuesday 13th Jan
During my pregnancy with my mono-di twins, I was told that baby B (Maverick) had some issues with his heart. This was our first time with sick kids and having a bunch of tests. While I laid there silent the amazing Dr. Nathan explained everything to me about babies hearts and how they work and change after birth. He finished with, and they look perfect. A big sigh of relief that only lasted until my anatomy scan a couple weeks later.

It was discovered Baby A (Rowan) had an isolated cleft lip. Back to sick kids we went to make a plan. We met with Dr.Fisher and his team who prepared us for everything and what to expect. A week after Rowan was born we met with them and made a date 3 months later for surgery.

What many don’t see at a children’s hospital is in the prep room you have all the kids and their parents and at the same time the little ones are taken from their parents and walked into the surgery area all at the same time, 7:00Am.  Handing my new born over and the silence after the last child is walked through those doors are deafening and I will never forget it.

We stayed in th burn unit while Rowan recovered (also plastics) another experience I will not forget anytime soon, remember, children hospital. Everyone was so amazing with us. Most parents have one little one there but because we had twins and I was breastfeeding, they both were welcome.

Sick Kids will now be following Rowan into his adult life, watching his scar, his teeth, an even his speech.

What we went through is so minor compared to other families but along with the scars we have the memories with how patient every person there was with us and how kind they all were. It is a scary place for families and I felt like we were really being looked after. ❤️
