Prepping for Stepping
Friday 23rd JanHow I’m gearing up for February 1 and every step for SickKids
February has always felt like a pause button in the year, cold mornings, shorter days, and the quiet temptation to slow down. This year, I’m choosing momentum instead.
As February 1 approaches, I’m officially in prepping mode for the SickKids Steps Challenge. Every step I take this month isn’t just about movement; it’s about intention. It’s about showing up consistently for something bigger than myself and turning an everyday action, walking, into meaningful impact for children and families who need it most.
Why I’m Doing This
Supporting SickKids is deeply personal. The care, research, and compassion that come out of that hospital change lives every single day. When I lace up my shoes (or boots) and head out into the cold, I remind myself that discomfort is temporary, but the good we can do together lasts far longer.
How I’m Gearing Up
Preparation is the difference between a goal that stays on paper and one that’s actually achieved. Here’s how I’m setting myself up for success:
Daily structure: Morning steps to start the day strong, plus intentional movement breaks to keep me accountable even on busy days.
Winter-ready mindset: February weather won’t stop me. Layered clothing, good footwear, and a “just get outside” rule, even if it’s for 10 minutes.
Tracking everything: Watching those steps add up is surprisingly motivating. Progress creates momentum.
Purpose over excuses: On low-energy days, I remind myself why I started. Someone else is counting on these steps.
More Than a Number
Yes, I have a steps goal. But this challenge isn’t really about hitting a number, it’s about consistency, resilience, and community. It’s about proving to myself that even in the hardest, coldest month of the year, I can still move forward.
If you’re following along, cheering me on, donating, or even deciding to take a few extra steps yourself, thank you. You’re part of this journey with me.
February 1, I’m ready.
Let’s step forward, together, for SickKids.

I’m so proud of the work that you’re doing!
